Chapter 01
The geography, plainly
Thirty-five miles of coast, and four distinct ways of living along it.
The barrier island holds Palm Beach itself: estate sections, Worth Avenue, clubs and a strict architectural review culture. West Palm Beach faces it across the Intracoastal with a walkable downtown and towers. North county — Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter — trades density for golf, boating and space. Inland communities offer newer construction and larger lots.
| If the priority is | Look first at |
|---|---|

Chapter 02
The practical sequence
First ninety days
- Florida driver license and vehicle registration
- Voter registration and mailing address transfer
- Homestead exemption filed by March 1
- Insurance placed: wind, flood, liability
- School enrollment or private-school application timeline
Questions this guide answers
- Does Florida have a state income tax?
- No. Florida levies no personal state income tax, which is a primary reason for relocation from higher-tax states. Property tax and insurance are the meaningful carrying costs to model instead.
- How do I establish Florida residency?
- Occupy a Florida home as your primary residence, obtain a Florida driver license and vehicle registration, register to vote, and file for homestead exemption by March 1. Documenting the change of domicile matters if a former state examines it.
